How to deploy SurveilStar Web Monitor

SurveilStar Web Monitor is consisted of two modules:

  • Capture Engine Manager: To collect information from target computers
  • Web Viewer: To monitor and control Internet activities. Used by IT manager and supervisor only.

Situation 1 and the solution

Situation:

Computers are connected to a network hub

Solution:

1) Install the Capture Engine Manager module on computers needed to be monitored

2) Install the Web Viewer module on IT manager’s and (or) supervisor’s computer(s)

Situation 2 and the solutions

Situation:

1) Computers are connected to a network switch.

2) And the LAN uses software gateway to connect to the Internet

Solution 1:

Install both Capture Engine Manager and Web Viewer modules on the computer functions as gateway, proxy server or firewall.

Solution 2:

1) Install the Capture Engine Manager module on the computer functions as gateway, proxy server or firewall.

2) Install the Web Viewer module on IT manager’s and (or) supervisor’s computer(s).

Situation 3 and the solution

Situation:

1) Computers are connected to a network switch

2) And the LAN uses hardware router to connect to the Internet

Solution:

1) Add a hub to connect the switch and the router

2) Connect computers needed to be monitored to the hub

3) Install the Capture Engine Manager module on computers needed to be monitored

4) Install the Web Viewer module on IT manager’s and (or) supervisor’s computer(s)

Terms and definitions used in this how-to article
